Pope Francis recently made a “Decree of Miracle” acknowledging a miracle attributed to the foundress of the Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration, whose motherhouse is in Mishawaka. Pope Benedict celebrates Mass at the Basilica of St. John Lateran April 7 formally taking possession of the basilica, his seat as bishop of Rome. The Evangelium Vitae Medal was awarded to the Sisters of Life at a celebration at the the University of Notre Dame.

  • This week’s issue celebrates Pope Francis, newly elected pope on March 13 and covers his first angelus and Mass of Installation on March 19, the feast of St. Joseph. The diocese sponsored SANKOFA, a day of reflection for black Catholics in South Bend on March 16. Also the Pueri Cantores choir provided music for a Mass for the Pope at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at Notre Dame. Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades celebrated a Mass for the Pope on March 18 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Fort Wayne. The Women’s Care Center in South Bend has a new chapel that was blessed and dedicated March 16. St. Joseph School, Monroeville, concluded its year-long centennial celebration on March 17.

Priests report that the Light Is On For You was a “time of grace” and a “great time to be a priest.” Cardinal Timothy Dolan will be the commencement speaker at the University of Notre Dame this spring.
